Spring Flowers At Last

The days are getting longer and the sun now sometimes shines, but the temperatures are still way down at the Quarr. There are, however, encouraging signs of life, and not just the flowers:

Comfrey

Celandines spreading everywhere

Bluebells

A few bluebells here and there

Cherry tree blossom

Cherry tree blossom stands out

Dandelions

Dandelions growing beneath the cliff face

 

Bee on white nettle

A honey bee on white nettle…

Mollusc

…and a little mollusc on a dock leaf

The Quarr is looking very green and is going to burst into life as soon as the sun shines!

Ash Dieback Alert!

As yet there have been no Dorset cases of ash dieback, the deadly disease caused by the fungus Chalara fraxina. But as spring gets underway the signs of the the disease become more visible - leaf loss, bark lesions and crown dieback.
