The weather is unseasonably warm and with blue skies and very little wind it almost seems like summer is here.

There was also a little chiff-chaff singing in the trees:

A welcome little visitor, all the way from South Africa!

As soon as March gets under way the celandines begin their colonisation of the Quarr. First, there are one or two isolated pockets of bloom, shining a brilliant yellow against the winter undergrowth. Then the brilliant green foliage spreads and the flowers begin to appear everywhere.  Soon there are blankets of yellow and green as the celandines spread across the grassland, pop up beneath the trees and border the pathways.

Celandines are a sure sign that the season is on the turn and that the Quarr will bloom again for the new season.

And there are some interesting plants beginning to inhabit the slope…
